A better way to navigate the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s online archive

This collection browser was developed around the needs of people looking at art for reference and inspiration. Its interface gives individual works a clear, uncluttered setting, reducing the amount of competing material around the image. The project takes the presentation of a large museum collection as a design problem: how to make room for looking within a browsing tool. The resulting web app keeps the artwork as the main point of attention, with the interface acting as its frame
